Event 9 2017 - Dummer

The last event for HHGS for 2017. 27 players ultimately played on a course that was dry, with greens that were very fast paced. If only there wasn't the fog...............

As always the club looked after us very well and we have booked to go back again, this time next year.

Nearest the pins were on the 5th and 14th holes and were won by Guest, Nick Khaira and Alex Thew respectively.

Our best guest was Jim Merriott who amassed 34 points on his 15 handicap.

In third place with 38 points and cut 1 shot, was James Harris, (a podium finish two months on the trot). In second place, on countback, with a staggering 40 points was Phil Moody who enjoys a 2 shot cut. Our winner though, was Pete Stubbs who also got 40 points. Pete played a brilliant 1 under par gross back 9 scoring 24 points from his 11 handicap. Accordingly, Pete will enjoy a three shot cut for the next 12 months.

Below is the leaderboard of our last event for 2017.

Event 8 2017 - Salisbury South Wilts
Fred Nicholls Memorial Shield

24 players for this, the second Fred Nicholls Memorial Shield match. The weather was perfect.

It is fair to say that the course looked in fabulous condition and played all of its 6000+ yards.

Nearest pins were on the 8th and 18th holes and were won by Kris Foster and David Bailey accordingly.

Our best guest , with 37 points, was Nick Jackman.

Last year the event was won by Pete Stubbs, but his hold on the shield was for one year only!

In 3rd place with 33 points, was Mike Grieshaber. In 2nd place with 36 points, was Jim Pretty. Both players enjoy a 1 shot cut. Our winner though and holder of the Fred Nicholls Memorial Shield for this year, with 37 points, was James Harris. James will enjoy a 2 shot cut for the next twelve months.

Event 7 2017 - Lee on the Solent

24 players for this event, which is very good for the school holiday period. The weather was glorious again.

As always Lee on the Solent looked after us well.

Nearest the pin on the 13th was won by guest, Andy Williams who scored an ace on the hole. Well done Andy. Perhaps you'd like to join us now?

Best Guest was John Sweeney with 38 points. In third place from the Hackers was Ray Cook with 35 points. In second place with 37 points, on his first visit back after several years away, was John Bartle. Ray is cut one shot and John, two. Our winner with  38 points, also cut two, is Alex Thew.

Event 6 2017 - Corhampton - Captain's Day

Fantastic weather again which meant a stunning day on the course. Captain. Kevin Dye, choise his home course to host this event and due to injury, was unable to actually play, but attended the day to chivvy the troops alonmg and keep us plied with liquids.

30 of us took to the fairways and there was some fantastic golf played with one player coming in with a 1 over par gross score, more onthis later.

The pink ball competition was won by Ray Cook, Ian Troup and Ade Knight with 37 points.

Nearest pins were on the 6th and 11th holes and were won by James Harris and Steve Halfpenny repspectively.

Best guest on the day was Terry Rice with 35 points. The Hackers were placed thus: In 3rd Place with 39 points, Peter Davey, who will enjoy a 1 shot cut for thje next 12 months. In second place, (on countback), with 41 points was James Harris. Because of his score being so high, James will enjoy a 2 shot cut. Our winner though, also with 41 points but an impressive 1 over par gross score and a net 62, was Steve Halfpenny who enjoys a 3 shot cut.

Congratulations go to Kevin for a successful day.

Due to a system software failure, we are not able to bnring you a leaderboard at this time.

Event 5 2017 - Rowlands Castle

Glorious weather again for this event. A bit of a frosty reception from some of the people working there, but overall not a bad day.

31 took to the fairways and conditions were looking like a high score would seize the day. However this was not quite the case.

Our best guest was Jerry Goddard with 34 points from his 28 handicap. Nearest the pins were on the 2nd and 14th respectively and were won by Guest, Phil Durrant and Richard Knight. Well done gents.

On the HHGS front, 3rd with 35 points, on countback, was Greg Harmer. In 2nd place also with 35 points, was Ray Cook. Both Ray and Greg enjoy a one shot cut. Our winner though with 36 points, was Richard Knight who enjoys a further two shot cut for the next twelve months.

Event 4 2017 - Dudsbury

The previous day was a complete washout and the course was almost empty, however, along come the Hackers and the sun shines on the righteous!

A glorious day, typical of summer. 29 of us took to the Dorset fairways and were surprised how dry the course was......apart from the ponds and lakes, that is!

Talking of which, Brian Kirby twice put his ball in the water and believed he could play both. So with shoes and socks off and his trousers rolled up, he proceeded to wade in the water. He did get the ball out both times and complete the hole. We don't  normally put photo's on this part of the website, but this was too good an opportunity to miss! Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Jaques Cousteau Kirby.

Joined again by nine guests, the winner of these was Neil Suthers, with 36 points. Nearest the pins were placed on the 2nd and 15th holes and were wone by Jeff Walton and Ray Cook respectively.

On the leaderboard, third place went to Jim Pretty with 32 points, whilst second place was won by Mark Nolan with a creditable 35 points. Both enjoy a 1 shot cut for the next year. Our winner,  with 37 points, was our secretary, Adrian Knight, who will enjoy a 2 shot cut for the next twelve months.

Event 3 2017 -Tidworth Garrison

A superb day, a little colder than expected to start with, but glorious sunshine. The greens were running true and the course was in terrific condition.

We were expecting some very high scores today, but the course created some great golf and proved more difficult than expected.

Joined today by 9 guests, the strongest player of those, on coutback, was David Adams with 32 points. The nearest pins were on the 5th and 13th holes and were wone by Phil Moody and Guest, Jon Pardekooper respectively.

In third place, again on countback, was new member, Alex Thew with 34 points. Also on 34 points and in second place was Phil Moody. Both players enjoy a 1 shot cut. The winner, with 36 points and playing to handicap, was Jeff Stanfield with 36 points and Jeff enjoys a 2 shot cut!

Event 2 2017 - Barton on Sea

24 took to the fairways, which were in terrific ciondition. Unfortunately our views of the Isle of Wight from the clifftops were obscured by heavy rain and a Solent mist! Regardless, a great course and a good test of golf. The weather was fine after a couple of hours.

We were joined today by 6 guests, who all seemed to love the course too. With our two nearest the pins both being won by guests Tony Proudley on the 18th and Steve Davis on the 8th. Well done gents......maybe it's time to join the Hackers?

Our best guest was again, Tony Proudley with 35 points. Under the wind and rainy conditions, 35 was an excellent score. The Hackers' prizes were equally impressive. In 3rd place, Stephen Knight with 34 points. HIs brother, Richard Knight was in 2nd place with 35 points. Both enjoy a 1 shot cut for the next twelve months. Our winner with 36 points was Jim McIntosh, who walked away with the trophy, a shirt and two shot cut.

Event 1 2017 - Royal Winchester

20 of us took the fairways of Royal Winchester. Most of us love this course, but were disappointed with a few of the holes and that every tee was a mat. Then again it was still winter rules! It was windy but dry and dry underfoot and when you hit the green the ball did hold.

We were joined by one guest today, Jim Pretty, who played quite well and put in a score of 28 points, which was a fair score for the conditions. We didn't have any nearest pins at this event, but a special mention must be made of Stephen Knight, one of our new members, who placed the ball just six inches from the hole that would have been a nearest pin.

In 3rd place with 31 points was Steve Halfpenny. 2nd was Mark Proudley with 32 points but the winner, on countback, also with 32 points, was Mike Grieshaber. Mike enjoys a two shot cut, whilst Steve and Mark just one. One shot back wasa given to Andrew Milner, on his first outing with us.

Event 9 2016 - Dummer

A windy but dry day that although a bit overcast was a great day. 22 players, lower than expected, but worked perfectly.

Nearest pins were on the 5th and 14th holes and were won by Mark Proudley and Steve Halfpenny respectively.

Best guest on the day was James Harris with 36 points. Under the wind conditions, a very good score indeed. When it comes to the HHGS Members, the top three were, in reverse order, Richard Knight with 29 points, Brian Kirby with 31 points and who together are cut one shot a piece. Our top player of the day was Jim McIntosh with 32 points and who enjoys a 2 shot cut.

Event 8 2016- Salisbury & South Wilts - Fred Nicolls' Memorial

This event was tinged with sadness following the recent passing of our Captain, Fred Nicholls and following a general consensus of opinion, from this day forward, the October event will be the Fred Nicholls Memorial, with the awarding of a shield, to be held by the winner for a year.

A good turnout for our first visit to this course. Everyone afterwards commented how they loved the sweeping fairways, the views and the putting surfaces and want to return again.

Our nearest pins were won by Guest - Jon Graham and Kevin Dye on the 8th and 18th respectively. Well done.

Our best guest, invited by Jon Graham, had 37 points. The top three Hackers, in reverse order, were David Bailey with 36 points, Daniel Williams with 38 points, both enjoying a 1 shot cut, whilst our winner with 40 points was Pete Stubbs who enjoys a 2 shot cut.

Pete was a regular player with Fred every Saturday at their club, Wickham Park, so it seemed only fitting that he won the first Fred Nicholls Memorial.

Event 7 2016- Hamptworth

A last minute relocation to Hamptworth paid dividends, as they really looked after us. Playing our first ever par 6 on the 16th hole, was an experience and actually quite tough.

As our usual scorer wasn't there this day, we are still unaware of who the nearest pins were. Best guest was James Humphrey with 37 points and was the overall winner. However, only a Hampshire Hackers member can win the main prizes and in third place, with 33 points, on count-back, was Richard Knight, whilst with the same score in second place was Steve Halfpenny. Both will be enjoying a one shot cut. Our winner, enjoying a two shot cut, was Andrew Inkson with 35 points.

Event 6 2016- East Horton - Captain's Day

The day started with 32 of us playing the first 11 holes of the Parkland course in a secretly drawn pairs match, where the highest scoring pair would win. Only the Captain and Vice Captain actually knew who the pairs were, and no pair played together. The winners of the morning were Phil Moody and guest, Phil Hayward, who won a bottle of cheap plonk..... actually a very nice Castillo San Simon Monastrell Jumilla (Gran Reserva). Nearest the pin in the morning was Mark Proudley.

Following a ploughmans lunch, 34 of us took to the fairways of the Greenwood course for a real test of golf. Fast greens, sweeping fairways and rough that you would never find your ball in, made for a great challenge.

Two nearest the pins on the 6th and 17th holes were won by Mark Proudley and Alastair Thomson. Our best guest was Alastair Thomson who scored an incredible 40 points with his 6 handicap. Well played sir.

In fourth place with 30 points was our Captain, Fred Nicholls, whilst in third place for the Hackers was Richard Knight with 31 points. In second place with 32 points was Jeff Walton. All three will be enjoying a 1 shot cut going forward. However our winner with 34 points and enjoying a 2 shot cut is Mike Sinacola.

Overall, a very enjoyable day, and our Captain, Fred, has especially asked that I thank everyone who was able to attend the day.

Event 5 2016 - Test Valley

Overall the weather held out as a disappointing 12 players hit the fairway.  A super looking course in excellent condition as, for the first time, HHGS
played there.

Due to our low turnout we only had one gust on this occasion, so well played Bob House who scored 30 points. Our nearest pin holes were on the 5th and 9th holes and were won by Ray Cook and Brian Kirby respectively.

The top three spaces on our leaderboard, went , as follows: In 3rd place with 34 points and being cut one shot was Steve Halfpenny who becomes the first ever Hampshire Hacker to have a scratch handicap. Congratulations Steve. In 2nd place, with 36 points and also enjoying a one shot cut, was Ray Cook. Our winner, for the second month running, with 38 points was Terry Caister who enjoys a further two shot cut.

Event 4 2016 - Dudsbury

Perfect weather, little wind, dry and warm, what more could you ask. 25 members and guests took to the fairways and greens of this great course. In superb condition, would it lend itself to a good score?

5 guests joined the Hackers for the day and the best score of those came from John Cridland, with 32 points. Nearest the pins were on the 3rd and 15th and were won by Phil Nolan and Steve Halfpenny respectively.

In the echelons of HHGS, the top three were; in 3rd place, with 31 points and cut one shot, Jeff Stanfield on countback. In second place, with 35 points, Mark Nolan, who also enjoys a one shot cut. Our leader however, with a massive 42 points and enjoying a two shot cut is Terry Caister.

Event 3 2016 - Tidworth

Again, the weather couldn't have been kinder as 28 Hackers and guests took to the fairways of the Army's top course. The greens were fast and true which resulted in some surprising scores. Lower than expected.

There were 8 guests who joined us and the best score of the day was from Andy Williams, who scored 38 points from his 5 handicap. The nearest pins were on the 5th and 13th holes and were won by Matt Fox and one of our guests.

The Hackers top three were: 3rd - Jeff Walton 32 points, 2nd - Paul Munter 35 points, both enjoy a one shot cut, whilst our winner, surprisingly, was Ade Knight with 36 points and who enjoys a 2 shot cut!

Event 1 2016 - Petersfield

28 entrants for the first event of the year and it was dry!!!! Only criticism of the course was that all the flags were at the front of the greens. The greens were cut well and in view of the preceding months of heavy rain, full credit to the green staff.

We had 8 guests playing with us and the best score in was from James Harris with 37 points. Nearest the pins were on the 5th and 13th holes and were won by David Bailey and Steve Halfpenny respectively.

In 3rd place with 37 points, on countback, was Pete Stubbs. In second place, also on countback with 39 points, was Jonathan Greep. Both Pete and Jonathan are cut a shot each. In first place with 39 points also, was Steve Halfpenny, who has won for the second event in a row and enjoys another 2 shot cut.

Event 9 2015, Dummer

25 players for Dummer on what was another wet and dry day, our last event of 2015. Full credit to the course as there was no waterlogging at all. It was a mightily windy day.

Nearest pins were on the 5th and 14th holes and Steve Halfpenny won both with two incredibly close shots. Our best guest was Geoff Rhodes with 34 points.

In 3rd place with 34 points was Matt Fox, whilst 2nd place wen to David Bailey again, two months running with 37 points. Our winner though, with 38 points was Jim McIntosh. Matt and David get cut 1 shot each and Jim is cut 2 shots.

Event 8 2015, Sherfield Oaks
Eighteen players took to the fairways in what turned out to be a great day. The course played well and the rain was hardly noticeable!

Nearest pins were abandoned after the club failed to put out the markers. Due to the rain, it was impossible for a card to be used as well.

Our best guest of the day was Rob Milner with 32 points. In 3rd place, with a reputable 35 points was our newest member Ian Millar. Four points more, meant that  David Bailey was 2nd on 39 points, but our winner with a tremendous 42 points, was Paul Munter. Ian and David were both cut 1 shot, but Paul was cut two for winning and a further 2 on general play.

Event 7 2015, Brokenhurst Manor

The weather put a bit of a dampner on the day as it rained non-stop. However, everonye that put their name down did turn up. That said, the course didn't become boggy in any way and played very well indeed. It would be fair to say that the wet did hinder holding the club at times, but even so some good scores for the conditions were secured.

Nearest the pins were on the 5th and 12th holes and were won by Glen Taylor and Brian Kirby respectively. Our best guest was Glen Taylor with 35 points.

In third place with 34 points was Roy Challinor, whilst 36 points from Mike Sinacola secured second. Both enjoy a one shot cut. Our winner though, with 37 points, was Steve Halfpenny who enjoys a two shot cut to 4. Well played Steve, Mike and Roy.

Event 6 2015, Knighton Heath - Captain's Day

What a superb day. Excellent weather, fabulous course, great food and great prizes put up by our captain, Mark Proudley.

The day started with a 10 hole, yellow ball, stableford team event, which was great fun. This was followed by a tasty ploughman's lunch before facing the course, head on, with an individual stableford competition with a twist. The twist being that before we all arrived, Mark and vice captain, Fred Nicholls, had each picked a team and secretly pitted each of us against another player, with results to be announced after dinner.

The afternoon event saw some great holes of golf played by some, but not all! Nearest the pin was on 11th and won by guest, Pete Farrier. The longest drive was on the 15th Hole and narrowly won by Mark Stevens. Our best guest with a staggering 45 points from a 16 handicap, was Mike Kelly. Within HHGS, in 3rd place with 36 points was Kevin Dye, who was just pipped to 2nd place by Jonathan Greep, with 37 points. But our winner with 38 points, was former captain, Mike Sinacola. Kevin and Jon both enjoy a 1 shot cut whilst Mike has the acclaim of a 2 shot cut. Well played gentlemen.

When it came to the mystery one-on-one competition, it was Fred Nicholls' team who comfortably brought home the bacon and the whole team were rewarded with a stick of Bournemouth rock! Congratulations Mark on a fantastic day.

Event 5 2015, Sandford Springs

Another fantastic day of great weather and a great course. Only seventeen of stepped up to the palte for this event, but even so, a great day was had.

The whole course was in fantastic condition. The only consideration was that the greens ran slower than they looked.

Best guest of the day was Phil Hayward with 35 points, scoring well on a tough track. Nearest the pins were on the 6th and 14th and were wone by Richard Knight and Gregh Harmer respectively.

The Hackers leaderboard was as follows: 3rd place with 33 points was Brian Kirby, pipped by one shot by Terry Caister on 34 points. Both get a one shot cut. Our winner with 38 points was Tommy Frampton. Tommy enjoys a two shot cut to 7. Well played Tommy.

Event 4 2015, Dudsbury

A superb day weather wise, plenty of sunshine with a bit of breeze meant a few would be sunburnt when they got home or certainly by morning! The course was in terrific condition all round, however many commented that the greens played much slower than they looked. That said there were a variety of scores today, some exceedingly good.

Best guest was Ian Tudor with 38 points and agreed to join the society, so a new member is welcomed to the fold. Nearest pins were won by Roy Challinor on the 8th and Simon Dallimore on the 15th.

The top three Hackers, in reverse order are Greg Harmer with 35 points in 3rd place, Mark Proudley in 2nd with 36 points, both of whom are cut 1 shot, but our winner with 39 points and enjoying a 2 shot cut was Richard Knight. Well played gentlemen.

Event 3 2015, Tidworth Garrison

A fabulous day on a fabulous course. Another top golf course, well manicured and very well presented. The greens were a little difficult to read, which made those who scored well stand out from the crowd.

As the Hackers took to the fairways, the sun shone upon the righteous and few of us too! Nearest the pins were on the 5th and 13th holes and were won by Fred Nicholls and Guest, Ray Hallet, who also went on to win the best guest prize with  32 points.

In 3rd place, enjoying a 1 shot cut was Richard Knight with 36 points. Jeff Walton came in 2nd with 37 points and also enjoys a 1 shot cut. However, our handicap secretary Ray Cook, took the top spot with 39 points and enjoys a 2 shot cut.

Event 2 2015, Barton on Sea

The general consensus of all who attended is that this was a proper golf course. Fantastic views of the solent across to the Isle of Wight, the fairways were superb, the greens were very fast and all very well kept. Overall a stunning day, even the weather ensured our day was complete. The food was also superb. We felt truly looked after.

30 of us took to the course and it produced some very good results. Nearest the pins were on the 8th and 18th holes and were won by Ray Cook and Mark Proudley respectively. Well done fellas. Our best guest was David Porter who achieved 39 points with his 4 handicap. To the Hackers and some good scores, with Tommy Frampton in 3rd place with 38 points, Andrew Inkson placed 2nd with 39 points and both enjoy a one shot cut. Our winner, his first time as the premier player was our Chairman, Matthew Fox who scored a solid 41 points and enjoys his first two shot cut. Well done lads.

Event 1 2015, Weybrook Park

24 of us took to the fairways of Weybrook on what was forecast to be a very rainy day. Congratulations to the Meteorological Office who were spot on with thier predictions. It tipped down for the majority of the day, favouring those that had later tee times. Regardlesss, it was a good turn out for February and the first event of the year.

So the results. We start with nearest the pins which were on the 3rd and 10th holes and subsequently won by Phil Nolan and Ray Cook respectively. The top three players are; Ray Cook with 36 points and Guy Willmott also on 36 points, who both graciously accept a one shot cut. Our winner was Richard Knight who amassed 38 points and enjoys a 2 shot cut.

There was a new rule introduced for this year where the lowest scoring player would get a 1 shot increase in their handicap. The first recipient of the increased shot was Phil Nolan. There were two players that were unable to complete the round and show as "No Returns" (NR).

Dummer - November 2014

26 players for the last event of 2014. It had been a couple of years since we had graced the fairways of Dummer Golf Club and the course had improved. We'd had a fair amount of rain prior to this event, but the course showed no sign of it.

On the day, a bit of rain here and there but overall, a stunning weather day.

Our best guest on the day was Arthur Bell with 30 points. We also had nearest pins on the 5th and 14th, but the winners names have been lost!

In third position with 35 points, on countback, was Jim McIntosh. In second place, a long overdue placement for Matt Fox, with 38 points. Both Matt and Jim are cut 1 shot for their efforts, but our winner, being cut 2 shots, with a superb 41 points, was Julian Todd. Well done to all our winners.

We would like to point out that Jim Merriott had to leave during his round because of a family emergency hence his score shows as nil.

Botley Park - October 2014

23 signed up but only 20 were able to make the day. The weather was due to be horrific, following such a great spell of fine weather, however, the weather Gods smiled upon us, with only a little rain. The winds were very strong and it proved difficult to put a high score in today.

Nearest pins were on the 5th and 13th respectively and were won by Terry Caister and Matt Fox respectively. In third place with 33 points was Jim McIntosh, whilst in second place with 34 points was Terry Caister. Both enjoy a one shot cut. Our winner, with 35 points was Mark Proudley, our Vice Captain, who enjoys a 2 shot cut. Well played to everyone that got 30 points and above.

Charity Day - Romsey Golf Club - September 2014

96 players helped raise over £8,000. Teams of four-balls played Stableford competition where the best three scores counted. The weather was fantastic, warm and sunny with just enough breeze to keep us cool. Starting at 11am on a two tee start, the course was in excellent condition and our thanks go to Romsey Golf Club for making us all so welcome. Excellent meal afterwards as well.

Nearest the pins were on the 3rd and 10th.  The leaderboard is below. Well done to the top three teams with some very good scores.

Meon Valley - August 2014

26 players for this event which was excellent for August, being the summer holiday period. The course was in good condition and many forgot just how tight some of the holes were.

The weather held out for most of us but a heavy 5 minute shower later in the day caught our tail end Charlie's. That said some fairly good scores racked up!

Nearest the pins were won by guest, Ian Tudor and Mark Proudley respectively on the 4th and 14th holes. Our best guest with an impressive 40 points was Ian Tudor.

In third place with 35 points, on countback, was Ray Cook. Second place went to Greg Harmer with an impressive 36 points, but our overall winner with 42 points was Paul Munter. Ray and Greg enjoy a 1 shot cut whilst Paul enjoys a two shot cut for winning and a further two shot cut under the General Play rule. Paul's response? ......  "Bring it on!"

Southwick Park - July 2014

Another course that was in pristine condition, well manicured, well cut greens. All in all the best we'd ever played it. Another very well supported event as 33 took to the fairways.

The weather also very hot and glorious, helped make the course play so well.

Nearest the pins were on the 7th and 12th holes and were won by Ray Cook and Ade Knight respectively. Our best guest was Jim McIntosh with 38 points from a 28 handicap.

In third place with 37 points was Mike Sinacola from a 10 handicap. In Second place also with 37 points, on countback, Dave Cheadle from his handicap of 21. But our winner with 38 points from his 15 handicap, was Mark Nolan. Dave and Mike, enjoy a 1 shot cut and Mark a 2 shot cut.

Hockley, June 2014

Absolutely stunning course. Having just hosted a PGA event the weekend prior to our arrival, everything was prsitine. The greens were lighting fast, the tee boxes sublime and the fairways impeccable. Everyone who played commented on how good the course was. Well done Hockley golf club.

The weather was stunning, the conditions superb and scoring was difficult. The following is how the match panned out.

Nearest the pins were won by Cliff Williams and Terry Caister respectively on the 5th and 12th holes. Our best guest with an impressive 37 points was Paul Farrier, who would be cut by a shot if plays with us again. The fourth, third and second places all had 34 points each, but on countback, in third pace was Fred Nicholls and in second place was Terry Caister, both of whom will enjoy a one shot cut for their efforts. Our winner who also amassed 37 points on this difficult course was our Captain, Brian Kirby, who enjoys a two shot cut.

Captain's Day - Lee on the Solent, May 2014

It was a very wet morning for the yellow ball warm up for our best attended Captain's Day thus far. Without exception everyone got a soaking. The winning team were Stuart Seagrove, David McGougan and Phil Wright. Well done lads, in the wind and rain you did well.

The main event of the afternoon started with Captain, Brian Kirby being first away. Thankfully the weather was good, if not a little windy. Nearest the pins were on the 7th and 13th holes and were won by Grahame Weir and Ray Cook respectively. Best guest was Gerri Mathers with 31 points. A great score under the conditions. For the Hackers, third place went to Paul Munter with 26 points, on countback. Second was Mike Sinacola with 29 points and the winner with 31 points was our Vice Captain, Mark Proudley. Paul and Mike are both awarded a one shot cut and Mark earns a two shot cut.

All in all a great event, regardless of the weather. The following is our leaderboard:

Basingstoke, April 2014

This is a great course at the best of times, however the greens did play slowly becuase of the double top-dressing that had been applied. It meant that putts weren't reaching the holes and some minor frustration crept in at times. That said the course was still good and we had a fabulous time.

37 players hit the fairways and played to a fairly good pace. Weather was good and meal was excellent. We welcomed another three new members to this event, welcome to Julian, Kevin and Alan.

Our nearest pins were on the 3rd and 17th par 3's and were won by Ray Cook and Mike Sinacola. Needless to say they both 3 putted for 4's! Our best guest of the day was another David. Well done to David Oliver with 36points.

To the HHGS rostrum then and in third place with 36 points, Tommy Frampton. Second went to Vice Captain, Mark Proudley with 37 points and our winner, with a staggering 42 points was Paul Munter, (who was awarded a poncho and a bale of hay to feed his donkey - joke!). Tommy and Mark enjoy a 1 shot cut, whilst Paul will revel in a 2 shot cut. Well played gents.

As an addendum to the day, we decided to have a charity collection for the Rainbow Centre in Fareham, who are currently going through a financial crisis. Our whip round raised £460. Thank you gentlemen.

Stoneham, March 2014

This was the substituted course for the flooded Dudsbury and it was dry and firm and although overcast, DRY!

22 players hit the fairways for the late change event. What a lovely course Stoneham is and although the greens were not good (because of the recent weather), the cousre played well.

Slow play has started to creep back into some of the vents and under the society's slow play rule, a team were penalised with 2 shot penalties. We urge our members to keep up with the group in front them. That said nobody complained of being held up.

Our nearest the pins were on the 8th and 16th and were won by Jeff Walton and Fred Nicholls respectively. Our best guest of the day was David Bentley with 32 points.

So to the HHGS winners. In third place with 35 points (on countback) Greg Harmer. In second place also with 35 points, Mike Sinacola. Well done guys good golf and you've earnt yourselves a 1 shot cut. However the winner was Jeff Walton with a magnificent 40 points, and this was after the 2 shot penalty! Well played Sir.

Royal Winchester, February 2014

This was a revised date for this event due to the worst inclement weather conditions experienced in the last 60 years. Today the weather was fantastic. Dry, sunny but bracing. 24 of us hit the dry and firm fairways. The greens were running quite fast. We don't normally mention general play, however, with three eagles scored on the 9th hole, special mentions for Pete Stubbs, Fred Nicholls and Captain, Brian Kirby are a must. Well done fellas.

Our Nearest pins were on the 7th and 17th holes and were won by Chris Collins on his first outing with HHGS and Mike Sinacola respectively.

Our best guest today was Ian Tudor with 37 points. So to the Hampshire Hacker members. Third place went to Ray Cook with 34 points, whilst Jonathan Greep had 37 points. Both enjoy a 1 shot cut. Our winner was HSBC corporate member Michael Burden with 39 points. Michael enjoys a 2 shot cut.

November 2013 - Hockley

26 walked the fairways of Hockley on what was to be a day of non-stop rain. However, on the whole, just occasional showers and a quick stair-rod downpour and gale force hurricane. Otherwise the day was good. Windy but generally dry. The course was in terrific condition and the greens were like lightning.

Nearest the pins were on the 5th and 12th and were won by Guest, Paul Kelly and Ade Knight respectively.

Best guest was Dary Williams, who was on his home turf, but with a very creditable 36 points.

For the Hackers, 3rd place went to Mark Stevens with 33 points, 2nd place to Mark Proudley with 34 points and both enjoy a one shot cut. But our overall winner today with 36 points, enjoying a two shot cut was Terry Rice. Well played everyone.

October 2013 - Botley Park

17 of us ventured out on what was a glorious October day, just three days after one of the worst downpours we've experienced for some time. The fairways were good and the greens quite pacey, but some great golf played along with some mediocre stuff!

Nearest the pins were on the 5th and 11th holes respectively and were won by guest, David Poole and Colin Rayson.

So to the winning three. In 3rd place with 34 points was Mike Sinacola, whilst second slot went to Iain Huxley with 35 points. Both enjoy a 1 shot cut. The winner, wearing a sombrero and speaking broken Spanish, was Andy Inkson with a staggering 40 points and enjoys a 2 shot cut.

August 2013 - Hamptworth

Well done to Mark Humphrey who took the top spot with 38 points, securing him a great prize and a 2 shot cut. Nick Byrne with 34 and Brian Kirby with 33 points took 2nd and 3rd places respectively and who both enjoy a 1 shot cut. Our best guest, was former HHGS member, Jeremy Over with a terrific 36 points.

July 2013 - Southampton Municipal

What a stunningly hot and windless day. Again the Hackers took to fair weathered fairways. In the morning a yellow ball warm up with all balls, surprisingly, being returned at the end. There was a little confusion as the course had been altered a lot and was not very well marked as to where the next tee was. The winners of the team event were Matt Fox, Phil Moody, Jeff Walton And Mark Proudley, who are all cut 2 shots.......only joking gents!

The main event of the afternoon was our Stableford competition. Two nearest the pins on the 10th and 17th holes were won respectively by Adey Knight and Andy Inkson. Our best guest of the day with 23 points was Glen Belcher. To the Hackers podium then; in third place with 36 points was Phil Moody who enjoys a 1 shot cut. Second place went to Iain Huxley with a staggering 40 points and who luckily got away with only a 1 shot cut. The winner was Adey Knight, who has run the society for 10 years and for the first time won an event. The pleasure cost him a 2 shot cut.

June 2013 - Romsey - CAPTAIN's DAY

Firstly Ray Cook must have bribed the weather gods because for the majority of the day the weather was stunning. The course was in impeccable condition. Fast greens, low cut rough and bunkers with sand. Did I mention the trees? Oh, right! There were loads of trees, especially where I hit my ball.

Without our Captain's knowledge, it was agreed that we would brighten up our day with colourful golf outfits. We were graced with reds, pinks, yellows, blues..... in fact positively rainbow. The only things missing were Geoffrey, Bungle, George and Zippy!

The day started with a four ball competition using the power of the yellow ball. Actually they were orange but what the heck! Played in Stableford format whereby all four players must count two drives during the ten holes played, with whoever plays the orange ball scores double he points. The winning team of the morning were Tommy Frampton, Ray Cook, Matt Fox and Jon Gane.

The afternoon 18 holes got underway after a ham, egg and chips lunch. This time an individual stableford competition on a tough track course. Nearest the pins were on the 3rd and 10th. Respectively Iain Huxley and Mark Proudley were the winners, with Iain hitting the pin and almost holing out in one. Our best guest with 34 points was Cliff Williams. In 3rd place was Brian Kirby on 38 points who enjoys a 1 shot cut. In 2nd place, on countback was Andy Inkson who along with, 1st placed, Ray Cook both had 40 points and who both enjoy a 2 shot cut.

May 2013 - Sherfield Oaks

Only 18 of us for this event and what a course! One of the better courses HHGS has played in a long time.  Overall a great day all round, with only a light shower, and one heavy hailstorm lasting three or four minutes. Otherwise quite perfect.

Nearest the pins were on the 5th and 15th par threes and were won by Fred Nicholls and Terry Caister respectively. Our best guest was Mike Fagelman with 24 points. In third place with 34 points was Guy Willmott, second was Adey Knight with 35 points, both of whom are cut by 1 shot, but the winner with 39 points was Terry Caister with 39 points who enjoys a 2 shot cut.

April 2013 - Blacknest

The weather was certainly with us for this day. There were a number of red arms, necks and faces as the sun blazed through at 23 degrees centigrade. 26 of us took to the fairways, ponds, lakes and ditches of Blacknest. Although a short course, one that had some risk and reward holes. Generally speaking a good day was enjoyed by all.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Mark Nolan and Mike Sinacola on the 5th and 14th respectively. Best guest with 35 points was Jim Merriott. In 3rd place with 33 points was Mike Sinacola, with 2nd spot falling to Roy Challinor with 34 points. Both enjoy a 1 shot cut. Our winner with 36 points was Captain, Ray Cook, who as handicap secretary also, enjoys a 2 shout cut!

March 2013 - Dibden

The nine hole course played very well considering the amount of rain the had fallen recently. However the 18 hole course was a different matter altogether. Boggy, with one tee being almost unreachable and the fairways sodden with no ball run whatsoever. The club didn't even have any nearest the pin markers!! That said some good scores came in. One in serious bandit country and one already growing his moustache and wearing a sombrero!

Nearest pin prizes went to Dennis Young and guest, Russell Lempar. Best guest was Ian Tudor with an incredible 45 points and yes you did read that right! Well done Ian, he claimed a purple patch on the day helped. In 3rd place with 38 points (on countback) was Fred Nicholls, 2nd  with 39 points was Terry Rice and for the second event in a row and sporting his sombrero and groucho moustache, Paul Munter with 40 points. Paul enjoys another 2 shot cut and both Terry and Fred 1 shot cuts.

February 2013 - Basingstoke

Considering the terrible weather to start this year and the closure of many courses, Basingstoke Golf course was in superb condition. All the greens were on with the exception of the 12th, which, in all fairness, had been dug up and was being replaced. The temporary green was better than some main greens at other courses.

The first event in some time without a guest, so the Hackers set off to beat the rest of their merry band. Two nearest the pins went to Mark Nolan and Iain Huxley.

In 3rd place with 34 points was Mark Nolan, whilst 2nd spot went to Mike Sinacola with 37 points, who both enjoy a 1 shot cut for the next twelve months. But top of the pops was Paul Munter with 39 points and has earnt himself a 2 shot cut for the next twelve months.

November '12 - Corhampton

21 members and guests hit the fairways of Corhampton. It was dry, windy, overcast........ and did I mention dry? In superb condition for this time of year and with the amount of rain it has had. The winds were up around the 30/40 miles per hour mark!

Nearest the pins on 6th and 13th holes. On the 6th  Dave Cheadle, but no one recorded a hit on the green for the 13th, so that prize will be used in 2013!

On the scoreboard the best guest was also the overall highest scorer. Well done to John Sargeant with a very well earnt 34 points. Down to the Hackers in theird place with 27 points, Paul Munter who enjoys a 1 shot cut along with Nick Byrne who with 28 points was 2nd. Top spot went to Dave Cheadle who amassed 32 points and will be docked 2 shots for the next 12 months.

October '12 - Ashley Wood

Members and guests who played Ashley Wood have commented how good this course was. The weather held out as well.

Nearest the pins on the 4th and 9th holes respectively were won by Nick Byre and Tommy Frampton. Our best guest was Ross Smith with 25 points.

In third place with 34 points was Terry Caister, whilst in second place was Ray Cook with 36 points. Both of whom are cut 1 shot each. The winner however, off of a handicap of 8 and with 37 points is Tommy Frampton who is cut 2 shots. Luckily, Tommy gets back 2 shots next month taken away last November, so will remain at 8. Well played Tommy.

August '12 - Lee on the Solent

Stunning course condition and 27 of us played this. A little heavy rain for a couple of holes, otherwise sunshine and occasionally overcast.

OK, so the nearest pin markers weren't put out as we'd hoped, so no nearest pin competition and the expected curry and rice magically turned into ham, egg and chips, but it made no difference to the day. Overall, everyone loved the course and enjoyed the hospitality.

Best guest was the aptly named Paul Putt, who amassed a very creditable 36 points. In 3rd place, enjoying a 1 shot cut, with 33 points was Phil Moody. In 2nd place with 34 points, also enjoying a 1 shot cut, is our Captain, Mike Sinacola. But top of the pops with a superb 38 points from his 19 handicap was Mark Proudley, who will really enjoy his 2 shot cut.

July '12 - CAPTAIN'S DAY - Hockley

Mike Sinacola, this year's Captain, arranged a superb deal for 28 holes of golf, a superb buffet and truly pleasant two course meal to follow.
It has to be said that the course was in terrific condition albeit the rough was more punishing than you would expect to see at any pro- tournament.

The day started as a 3 ball Yellow Ball competition as a bit of fun and a warm up to the afternoon. Paul Munter, Guest - Mark Humphrey and Mike Sinacola nipped this one in the bud with a good score. Many lost the Yellow Ball early in the game, but no one as fast as Ade Knight, who duck-hooked it into neck high rough from the first tee shot. This of course created much banter, most of which is too "blue" to write up here!

The main competition tee'd off after a sumptuous lunch and again proved a tough challenge. The rough taking no prisoners whatsoever. There were two nearest pins on 5th and 16th holes. Mike Grieshaber took it on the 5th and Mike Sinacola on the 16th. Our best guest of the day was Tony Proudley who scored 31 points and who will be cut 1 shot when he next plays with us. That brings us to the top three. In reverse order, with 32 points and his first time on the podium since inception of the Hackers, was Chairman, Matt Fox. In second place, on countback, with 35 points was Terry Caister, whilst on his first time out with us, Jon Charman came top of the shop with an equivalent 35 points. Matt and Terry get a single shot cut, whilst Jon benefits from a 2 shot cut.

June '12 - Romsey

30 players for Romsey and the club did us proud. Poor weather was expected but on the whole, all stayed relatively dry, with only a few precipitations. Always a course that you must think your way around due to the narrow, tree-lined fairways, it takes no prisoners. So to see the scores that came in, showed many were indeed thinking rather than just hacking. A recommendation to the club would be to put a chairlift on cardiac hill or at the very least have a medic and oxygen tank on standby!!!!

The two nearest pins on 3 and 10 were a fair test and well done to Terry Caister and Martin Ward respectively. Our best guest with 32 points was Ian Tudor and that leads nicely into the 'Ackers top three. In 3rd place, on countback with 33 points (and on the rostrum for the first time since HHGS started) was Adey Knight. In 2nd place, on his home course, Ray Cook also with 33 points, but in the Numero Uno slot was Iain Huxley with 36 points after having his handicap adjusted. (Gimme a "B", gimme an "A", add on an "N", Stick in a "D" etc etc etc!) Adey and Ray enjoy a 1 shot cut and Iain a 2 shot cut.

May '12 - Blacknest Golf & Country Club

Again, 26 people took to the Blacknest fairways on what was a superb golf day. No rain, no heavy winds and no hailstones.... most of which has the been the norm for the last month! To say that the rough was unforgiving would be an understatement. Thick and deep. Once in it , you may as well have picked up your ball and moved on. There were many holes scratched because of it. The club did explain that it had just been far too wet to cut it. We could belive it.

This time out we had a nearest pin and a nearest the pin in two shots. Both were par 3's, the 7th and 16th,  but the 16th is 211 yards off the tee, uphill and wind against made this a tough hole. Only one person actually hit the green with the first shot and not surprisingly went on to be nearest in 2. Well done to our current Captain, Mike Sinacola. The 7th hole nearest pin was won by Tommy Frampton.

Our best guest, and not for the first time, was Ray Hallett, congratulations Ray, but you have a 2 shot cut next time you join us! In third place for the 'ackers was Brian Kirby with 32 points. Just ahead with 33 points and taking second place was Mike Grieshaber. Both Brian and Mike enjoy a 1 shot cut for the next twelve months. Our overall winner with 34 points was Society Captain, Mike Sinacola, who will enjoy a 2 shot cut for the next year.

April '12 - Alresford Golf Club for the next t

26 hit the fairways of Alresford. The course was impeccable. The greens superb and the fairways in fantastic condition. The sunny start soon turned to hailstones, then rain, then back to sun for the finish. All in all one of, if not, the best course we have played in some time. A real gem of the Hampshire countryside.

Nearest the pins were on the 10th and 16th  par 3 holes. These were duly won by John Fleming and Guest, Keith Johnson respectively. Our best guest of the day was Steve Godwin with 36 Stableford points. That brings us to the 'ackers.......... In 3rd place with 32 points was Dave Cheadle on his first outing as a Hacker. In 2nd place and on the rostrum for his second time in 8 years, Pete Stubbs with 34 points. In 1st place and a regular to the rostrum, the winner with 37 points was Andrew Inkson. Andrew enjoys a 2 shot cut and both Dave and Pete a 1 shot cut.

Mar '12 - Wellow Golf Course

27 attended and played on our first visit to Wellow. We were a bit surprised that not one tee box was in play and we had to play off the mats! In all fairness the course needs some distance markers on it, as it was difficult to know what clubs to use without an indication of how far away from the green you were. Food for thought for the club owners...........

Regardless of the above, nearest the pins were on the 3rd and 17th holes and were won by Graham Wiseman & Richard Warwick respectively. Our best guest, with 39 points, was Doug Cowan, who should consider joining us now with a score like that. As far as the Hackers are concerned, in third place, on countback, with 36 points was Ray Cook. In second position and also on 36 points was Iain Huxley. Both gentlemen receive a 1 shot cut on their handicaps. Our winner though, with 37 points, and enjoying a 2 shot cut in the process, was Mike Grieshaber. Well played folks.

Below is the final leaderboard of our Event number 2.

Feb '12 - Dunwood Manor

36 of the 37 scheduled to play arrived. Great weather conditions and our chance to say goodbye to one of Hampshire's hidden gems as the course is scheduled to close at the end of April.

A tough course at the best of times and although slightly damp underfoot, played realy well. The estimated Standard Scratch meant that the usual par of 70 really equated to 78 and that meant to win with 36 points was no mean feat. To beat that was outstanding.

We had two nearest the pin holes the 5th and 18th. Well done to Mark Nolan and Greg Dye respectively for accurate golf (on two holes anyway!).

Our best guest and in fact the best overall player on the day was Steve Smith with a staggering 38 points. Of the Hackers, in 3rd place with 32 points and enjoying a 1 shot cut was Mark Nolan. In the runners up position with 33 points was Roy Challinor, who after an 8 shot adjustment to his handicap before going out has promptly had two of those taken away! The top spot however went to corporate member Jeremy Over from Moor Blatch with 36 points who earnt himself a 3 shot cut.

Below is the leaderboard of Event 1, 2012.

November 2011

A very high scoring day today. Great weather and the course in a fair condition. 25 of the scheduled 28 turned up to play. Unfortunately the last group did lose daylight for the last hole and came home at dusk.

Nearest the pin holes were the 7th and 11th and were won by Mike Sinacola and Brian Kirby respectively. With only 1 guest, best guest was Gary Payne.

In 3rd place with 40 points (on countback), Mike Grieshaber, who enjoys a 1 shot cut. In 2nd place, also on countback, but with 43 points was Andrew Inkson who enjoys a 2 shot cut along with our winner, Tommy Frampton, who also had 43 points and won the sweepstake with the highest score on stroke index holes 1-5.

October 2011 - Captain's Day

Our first ever Captain's Day and Dunwood Manor was chosen by Tommy Frampton. Just in the nick of time too as it's possible that the club may close and the land be sold by the middle of next year. What a gem of a course in the Hampshire countryside. 24 players started and finished, but for those who'd not played it before, a bit of a shock was instore. Very tree lined fairway, fast greens and unforgiving rough made this a good test of our golfing skills. So Fair play to our winners.

Nearest the pins on holes 3 & 18 were Paul Munter and Mike Sinacola respectively. Best guest with a very respectable 33 was Mark Humphrey. In third place with a creditable 32, on countback, was Paul Munter. In second spot, also with 32 was Andrew Inkson. Both Paul and Andrew will enjoy a 1 shot cut. But getting the 2 shot cut and winning the best prize was our Handicap Secretary, Ray Cook.

It was a tough course, so well done to our winners. The full placing's are listed below.

July 2011

Chichester's Cathedral course was a stunningly sunny day for the HHGS. Loads of Sunscreen required. The course was in terrific condition too.

This is most certainly a hard course with water down the sides of most fairways and in some cases, down both sides and protecting the greens! That said, the games flowed quite smoothly and no one was threatened with time penalties.

Our best guest was James Staple with 27 points. Our two nearest the pin winners were Brian Kirby and guest, James Staple. In 3rd place with 34 points was Mark Proudley. In 2nd place with 35 points was Andrew Inkson and the outright winner with 36 points, was Colin Parsons. Mark and Andrew enjoy a 1 shot cut each whilst Colin has the privilege of a 2 shot cut. Below is the event scoreboard.

June 2011

Romsey promised to be a very wet affair with the forcast being heavy rain. We must have had Lady Luck on our side as we only had a little light rain for a few holes. The greens were good, the course was great and we knew that high scores wouldn't happen, and we were right!

We came close to adding the time constraint penalty points as a group lost ground on a previous tee time, but considerations were taken and the points never actually issued.

Below is the event table. Best guest was Neil Glazebrook, nearest pins were won by Tommy Frampton and Daren Laidlaw. In 3rd place with 34 points and on countback was Terry Caister. Ray Cook was 2nd with 36 points on his home course and our winner with 37 points was Jon Gane, making his first outing with the Hackers this year. Terry and Ray earn a 1 shot cut and Jon, a 2 shot cut.

May 2011

Good weather yet again and the course was in great shape. They also did us proud with the meal afterwards. This was the first outing under the newly created rule of a team captain and the need to keep up with the group in front. It worked, so thanks fellas for making this happen.

Below is the event table. Nearest pins on 5th and 11th were Tommy Frampton and Patrick Harrison resepctively. Best guest was Patrick Harrison with 41 points. Hacker wise, 3rd was Terry Caister with 35 points, Andy Inkson with 37 in 2nd and on countback, which meant that Ray Cook took first spot. Ray has been cut two shots and Andy and Terry cut 1 each.

April 2011

Good weather conditions and the course in excellent condition with freshly cut greens running very fast. There has been a problem with slow play recently at our society days and hopefully this will be rectified by the nomination of a captain for each tee time whose responsibilty is to keep their group up to speed and to ensure if they can't score that the balls are picked up. This became very obvious when the lead group came in over one hour earlier than the second group and they weren't holding up the following group either.

That said, a good scoring day for most supported by the attendance of 11 guests. Our best guest, on countback, was Richard Warwick. Nearest the pins were won by  guest, Charles Jackson on the 5th and by Jon Garthwaite on the 12th.

In third place with a solid 37 points and earning himself a 1 shot cut was Jon Garthwaite. In second place was Paul Munter with 40 points earning himself a 2 shot cut and our winner with an incredulous 42 points was Iain Huxley who also enjoys a 2 shot cut. The full leaderboard is below:
